Diplomová práce “Hrdinové nové Rusi: Analýza archetypů postav v díle Alexeje Balabanova“ představuje život a dílo jednoho z nejpozoruhodnějších režisérů nové ruské kinematografie Alexeje Balabanova. Užitím kvalitativní obsahové analýzy pojednává o všech jeho celovečerních filmech, jak těch dokončených, tak i těch nedokončených, a soustředí se na archetypy hrdinů, které režisér/scenárista Balabanov ve svých dílech soustavně využívá. Kromě toho práce rovněž popisuje, jak se tyto archetypy v průběhu času měnily, stejně tak jako se Ruská federace měnila po pádu Sovětského svazu a jak Balabanov sám tyto změny vnímal, ať už ve svém životě či ve svém díle. Zjištěné poznatky práce dále zasazuje do širšího kontextu postaveného na národních, historických a kulturních aspektech tak, aby poskytla pro čistě subjektivní přístup slavného režiséra také ryze objektivní rámec.

The script writing´s methods about new religious movement charismatic leader

This bachelor thesis deals with the principles of finding a story from the environment of a new religious movement. He carefully analyzes the character of charismatic leader and the characters of his successors. The final result of this thesis, if possible, is going to raise awareness of new religious movements as part of the film's story. In addition, the work deals with the theme of apostate, the nature of the ritual, or the fight against an external enemy. Furthermore, he interprets the way of working with the community space and, last but not least, the process of denomination or, on the contrary, the demonization of the religious movement in the film work.

The motive of selfishness and the possibilities of its displaying in the film August: Osage County

The bachelor's thesis deals with the searching of a motive of selfishness in an American film August: Osage County and the tools of displaying this motive in a film work. This thesis is not a film analyse although it could seems like it is. The thesis focuses on one concrete motive which is a main motive in the film. In this kind of focus the thesis analyses every single character, their motivations and the psychological profile of chosen ones
In the first part, I introduce the chosen film, the author of the script and – shortly – the film plot as well. In the second part, I try to analyse the structure of the story based on the work by Linda Aronson, the part of food as a stage proprerty, character's sexual behaviour and their psychological disorders. In the third part, I compare the film adaptation to the original play, which was also written by Tracy Letts, the author of the film sript.

The Principle of Mary Sue Phenomenon or How to Not Create a Too Perfect Figure

Masters diploma thesis The Mary Sue Principle or How Not To Create A Too Perfect Character is focused on the literary phenomenon of fan literary work – fan fiction – and its specific genre, Mary Sue. For this genre are typical almost ridiculously/absurd perfect characters, which attract all of the attention to themselves and often have excessive superpowers on their disposal.
The theoretical part of the thesis outlines the reasons for the creation of Mary Sue and explain specifics of this phenomenon. Moreover, it describes describe dramaturgic rules, which are supposed to help authors to create a character. The analytic part of the thesis then analyzes three movie and TV series characters – Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, Ray from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Grace from Peaky Blinders – which can be used to demonstrate components of a Mary Sue type of character. The goal of this thesis is to propose the use of the Mary Sue principle as a dramaturgic tool for character building.

Dual Conception of the Character

This thesis called dual concept of a character deals with the existence of films where the protagonist is not the main character of a viewer. The work examines on the basis of which principles this effect occurs. Then it is described, what kind of relations these characters have with each other, and how they influence each other during the narration. A few rules are set on the basis of the particular film examples, which fulfilment contributes to this effect. The aim of this work is to explain the difference between the function of a protagonist and the main character of a viewer. It also classifies types of stories, where the effect of a dual concept of a character occurs most often.

Characters with mental disabilities in czech cinematography 1993 - 2007

This bachelor thesis describes the changes in society's view of people with mental disabilities in recent centuries at first, then it is approaching the meanings of the words „mental handicap“ and briefly explains the various classifications of these handicaps. I also work with concept of characters with mental disabilities in Czech cinematography 1993 - 2007. To detect negative stereotypes about people with mental disabilities in the Czech films I use analysis of specific films of that time period. And at the end I find the most common negative stereotypes in these films. One of the most common negative stereotype is the presentation of death - or any form of destruction, silencing, or imprisonment - a character with mental disabilities, as the only possible solution for the character with mental disabilities and society too.

Double Journey Of The Queen

This study focuses on structural analysis of narrative of the double journey film The Queen according to three types of structuring - classical three act structure, sequence approach and the hero's journey. Each of those methods is examining the story with regard to the fact that the film has two protagonists. It is also taking into consideration the possibility of adjusting these model structures to fit this particular story. The study concludes that each of those methods can be beneficial if used in service of the chosen theme.

Stylization of characters in animation

Abstraction (in meaning of simplification) and realism are opposites, which involve
certain specifics in the comprehensibility. Both directions have their options in
terms of dramatic clarity.
In this work I want to research the possibilities of character animation in relation
to the degree of descriptiveness of characters, from simple hyper-realistic.
Furthermore, in the context of the visual forms, what enables different kinds and
where are conversely its pitfalls.
In conclusion, I will specify my own approach to this problem and which direction
I prefer.
